Music that haunts you
« on: June 05, 2009, 11:03:59 PM »
I'm talking about odd music, music which has that twitch in it, something unreacheable, which gives you a desire to hear more of it.
for me it's Tilahun Gessesse - Aykedashem Lebe

What's yours? :)

I got the feeling it haunts you in a different way than my example.

There is a last track on one of the albums by Elliott Smith, called "Bye", which really haunts me. Like he has been playing this from the other side...

Hm, I like it :)

btw, now we're talking about the other interpretation of haunting:

Ratatat- Shempi

Vicious Pink - 8:15 To Nowhere

Radiohead - All I Need
Urgh, I sure can imagine this haunts you. But again in another sense of the word :)

Ahhh Speel, I'm sure an open-minded guy like you can get some enjoyment from it :) I know RH is an acquired taste and can be a bit inaccessible, but In Rainbows is a beautiful album and deserves at least a few careful listens.
Yes yes yes, but the video, its the video which makes you think, which makes you haunted by the thought of child labour.

And btw. though I criticize RH to be too much "in your face", but also, sometimes, I love it to be "in your face".

Ahh yes you're right. Though the video doesn't match in any way with the meaning I get from the song, which is more important IMO since it's the song you listen to more than watching the video :-)

I never understand the lyrics, because it's not my native language

I'm not really sure what you mean. Are you saying their music is in your face? Or their words? Or their attitude? Or something else?

eh, the attitude, the sound.

I don't understand most of them either ;)

That's interesting. I don't think that about them at all! Yes some of their songs are heavier than others, but on the whole I wouldn't describe their music as in your face. I suppose it's just a matter of taste :)

Try listening to Street Spirit, Sail To The Moon, Nude, Faust Arp, Everything In Its Right Place or No Surprises if you want to hear Radiohead less "in your face" :)

Hehe, I was just thinking of Street Spirit and No Surprises considering that.

but don't listen to this old grumpy man, music is to be enjoyed! ;)
