Does that rgb/vga converter work with productivity modes (800x600) and can it do 1024x768 workbench screen somehow?

I use it mostly for games, which works great. For workbench the following modes work well:
PAL: High Res 640x256
PAL: High Res Laced 640x512
The key is that for the screen mode to use frequency of 15.60 kHz - that's the only frequency the VGA converter accepts. All the double frequencies do not display correctly - only portion of the screen shows, the other half of the screen is outside of the viewing area. For workbench though you don't need any converter, simply select one of the NTSC or Productivity modes and connect directly to US monitor. When playing games though, you would need to change the VGA connection to use the VGA converter. Since I mostly play games, I leave my Workbench set to 640x256 - it's sufficient for copying files and launching WHD games.
The other option is, which I also have, is to use SCART to HDMI converter. I use this one:
