Personally, I think Adobe was getting concerned that people WEREN'T pirating their products, anymore.  The kids in school weren't learning on pirated Photoshop.  Pirating Photoshop was more pain than it's worth.  They were learning on Gimp or other free or cheap alternatives, instead.  Failing to hook people on the entry level was starting to hurt Adobe's bottom line in lost sales later.  Hook 'em early, then reel 'em in to pay later when they can afford it is a smart strategy.  A lot smarter than trying to strong-arm a $1000 package on someone who can't pay it, and then wondering why they resent you later.

There is *a lot* more to the CS suites than just Photoshop. I'm a CS6 Design & Web Premium owner, and would have a hard time living without it.

BTW, funny to see these days how Adobe takes steps to make Flash kind of a HTML5+JS authoring tool as a complement to their proprietary Flash format (work with Flash "as usual" when authoring your content, but render it to HTML5+JS if you want to). I'm sure we will see more of that in the future. Makes sense.

You can download it, but they aren't giving it away.

If you don't own the original then downloading it from adobe is in the same legal position as downloading it from thepiratebay.

They've just removed the protection for the benefit of legitimate owners.

Obviously people will download it who aren't entitled, but it is a very old version.

The original owners dowloading these versions will N O T be able to use their original serials, which is even funnier, they have to use these that Adobe kindly provides to the right of the DL link, on that open and unprotected page, open for everyone, not just their registered customers (they DO have log-in customer pages as well, trust me). It's de facto there, free for all to download and use, and as they say themselves, online registration removed (with product killing (yes they did that, and currently still do with newer versions) when serial doesn't check out online they kill the installed products).

So download away people! If you want this *terribly old* piece of SW that is...
