New Amiga fanboy from Canada
« on: May 12, 2010, 01:21:58 AM »
Hi all!

I've never used an Amiga before a couple of weeks ago. Thing is, I was still a toddler when Commodore declared bankruptcy.

I knew a lot about Commodore VIC-20s and 64s, I had a VIC-20 when I was younger. So yeah, my uncle gave me an Amiga 500 a couple of years ago. Never played with it since I did not have the Workbench disk.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked him for an Workbench 1.3 disk. I then played a bit with the Amiga 500, made a null-serial cable, downloaded the trial of Amiga Explorer.

He also gave me an Amiga 1000, didn't worked though. So I had to open it up, re-seat everything, etc. It finally worked.

Ohh boy, am I having fun :P

I have an old Amiga 2000HD here, that has been stripped of all parts except the motherboard and it's chips. I tried making an ATX power supply, but no go. So I guess I'll keep it for spares.

I'm having so much fun that I've bought an Amiga 3000 from a guy from Ontario. Waiting for it now :)

If anyone has any tips for an Amiga newbie, go a head. Or any tips as to what I "need" to do with my "new" Amiga.

Thanks for reading :)

Well, basically, I always had an interest in old things eheh.

I got a collection of almost all video games console that was made after the NES.

But since I've played a lot with my VIC-20 when I was younger, and I had an Amiga 500 for a couple of years here, I said to myself I should try to boot that machine and play around with it.

Playing with it made me realize that those machines are totally awesome. They do amazing graphics and sound for old machines like that.

I never tried more than an Amiga 500, so I don't know all the power of the Amiga.

If I can make a good working Amiga workstation that is fast and that I can code my PHP stuff, well I'll be all set :) But it's more for learning about the computers that kinda started it all.

My Spouse?

My beloved Amiga would never do that to me!!! :)

Are you sure of what you assume? Don't you find it suspicious that my "uncle" gives me all those Amiga? ;)
