SnoopDOS tests and lots of fails on various programs
« on: April 02, 2012, 03:54:08 AM »
So I fired up snoopDOS for the first time to diagnose why multiview won't print but CED will.  The first program I opened up was Directory Opus.  It shows fails on:

ToolType  ICONSTART, BUTTONSTART, CONFIGFILE, CHECK    Fail
Open DirectoryOpus.STR Fail
and then a bunch of fails on trying to open FONTS:Topaz.

Awesome!  Now, how do I go about figuring out what that all means and how to solve it?

Multiview also fails a bunch of tooltype calls as well:

Load LIBS:objecttools.library Fail

ToolType CLIPUNIT, CLIPBOARD, SCREEN, PUBSCREEN, FONTSIZE, FONTNAME, BOOKMARK, BACKDROP, WINDOW, PORTNAME Fail.

Is my entire 3.1 install totally borked?  What could be the cause of so many fails?  I am running 3.1 and the latest BetterWB.

It seems to me like your datatypes system is somehow broken.

Try replacing your LIBS:datatypes.library with the one from your original workbench floppy disk sets and reboot. And then try to perform the print you originally intended.

Let me know how it goes.

OK, replaced the datatypes.library with the one off the WB3.1 and the error persists.  My test document is about two pages long, and it will print the two pages, but then it starts printing random characters as if it's just running off the end of the file in memory and sending whatever is there to the printer as well before it crashes.

Try replacing the text dataypes you have (both in Classes/ and Datatypes/) with the ones from the original WB 3.1 and then reboot and try printing again.

That fixed it.  Classes/ only contained Datatypes/ and Gadgets/.  I just copied everything from Datatypes over.

Do you think its something conflicting with the install of BetterWB?

Not really, I believe it was a weird-bad workbench installation issue that for some reason, you had.

I am glad you have sort it out :)

Whew!  Cos I like the betterWB :)
