Has my A4000D has finally died....
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:44:46 PM »
Sorry for the long post up front....

Well I have got my A4000 out of the loft again after going the retro show in Blackpool.

Here is the config to get this part out of the way A4000 desktop 2 meg chip, Picassio IV, Warp Engine 040 with 96meg Fast Ram, Vlab Motion Capture Card, DVDrom, 2GB IDE, 1GB SCSI, Kick 3.1 v40.70 roms, Buster rev 11, Battery REMOVED.

I got it up and running last year and everything was working fine to a point with the ide hard drive slowly dying this time its a bit more serious.

It was working fine off the scsi drive then I set up a rad disk to install mui from a dms file. It crashed and started to reboot but this time the power light keeps flashing and it will not get past the start-up.

I have had it completely stripped and cleaned everything out and put it all back together and pushed all the socketed chips in. Still the same so started doing the process of each bit at a time. This time I noticed that without the fast on the warp engine I just get a grey screen no power light flashing but dim.

This pointed me to the warp engine so put my standard 030 board back in and this time the power light was flashing again the sequence is about 6 or 7 repeated flashes what I could count. It does not seen to mater what cards or ram is connected I just get the same problem even with just the 2meg chip and 030 board and original 3.0 roms.

Its been a long time that I have had to dig deep with an ANIGA hardware problem so any help would be great as I don't want to give up that easy with it.

Cheers
marcus

Try to swap or remove an put back the 50Hz oscillator near the cpu slot. My friend's A4K rested a year and when he try to power up the computer, the screen was black. He removed and put back the socillator and his machine works fine.

If its soldered in I will have to try it at the weekend.:( and get hold of a new one.

Hi All, I have finally got round to checking the PSU of my A4000D I removed the unit out of the case and here are the Voltages....

+12v = 11.31
-12v = -11.96
+5v  = 5.06

These was taken with no load on the unit just plugged into the wall socket and a voltmeter across the pins, To me the +12v look down and looking on the AMIGA Power Supply Guide it's out of limit.

So the next is to fit a ATX power supply and see if that makes any difference I know on that guide it shows you how to do it but it does not mention anything about the what to do with the power button.

Cheers

Marcus
