Hi,

I also made the test to chain a A1010 and a A1011 Commodore drive on my A1200 and I have the same result as you :
- A1010 is working well on the external connector when it is alone,
- A1011 is working well on the external connector when it is alone,
- when the A1011 is linked to the A1010, A1010 is working but A1011 is not working.
Indeed, it seems that when linked, the A1011 is not powered through the A1010 (I cannot hear the typical "clic" inside).

I have a A1200 with a 200MB 2.5" hard drive + a GVP A1230 Turbo accelerator card which probably need a big amount of power. My power supply is the standard A1200 power supply. As you said maybe this power supply is not enough powerfull to power the second floppy drive.

I will try to get the powerfull A500 power supply in the future and see if the problem is solved with this change.

Maybe even if the power supply is more powerfull, it will not solve the problem if the problem is linked to the fact that the external floppy connector is limited to a certain amount of power which is under the need of a A1010 + A1011 floppy drives.

I also heard several times that 1 external floppy drive is only supported (even it is said 2 or 4 in some documentations) but I do not manage to find the truth on the net.

OK ! The explanation is very clear now ! So the pass-through port on the A1010 can only be used for self-powered floppy drive (not the A1011 for example).

Thanks !

OK thanks ! so that's possible ! Good !
So I will try now to get a 35.7W A500 power supply to power my linked A1010 + A1011 :)

PS : For information, Commodore (and others) has also sold some self-powered floppy devices such as the A1020 which is supported on Amiga (see here : http://www.commodore-amiga-retro.com/amiga/a_amiga_inframe.htm)

Hi gang,

Good news : I just won today a A500+ power supply (P/N = 312503-03) on Ebay for only 10 Euros which should enable me to get ~35 W of power instead of ~22 W for my A1200 and its 2 disc drives (see : http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/amiga_hacks/Amiga_Power_supplies/body_amiga_power_supplies.html#Dealing_with_power_supply_issues).
Hope it should solve my linking problem.

Let me 1 or 2 weeks (time to pay, to receive it and find some times to play with the Amiga) and I will give you my feedback.

Have a nice week-end.

Hi gang,

I just received yesterday my new (old) A500+ power supply (P/N = 312503-03 / specs : 400ma - 5V 4.5A / 12V 1A / 12 100mA) which should enable me to get ~35 W of power  instead of ~22 W for my A1200 and its 2 disc drives (see : http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/am..._supply_issues).

However, it does not solve the problem : the A1011 is still not recognized behind the A1010 even with this bigger power supply. The A1011 is still not powered.

So assuming the A1010 is power pass-through, I think it seems to be a limitation of the A1200 which can not handle more than two disc drives (1 internal + 1 external) since many of you confirmed that it works on A500/A500+/A600/A1000 configurations.

Hello,

Since my last post, I got the original Commodore A1010 drive documentation and it clearly says that the Amiga A1010 pass-through port is not powered.
