Big HD FC with Magellan?
« on: July 20, 2010, 02:13:01 PM »
Hello:
As if I hadn't have enough as a newbie with Workbench, I'm starting to prepare a "not neccesary" 16Gb CF Sandisk I have to be running under Magellan II.

Well, I have a couple of thousands of questions about Magellan, but I want to start from the beginning.

I'll tell what I've done: As I already had a CF running with OS3.9 and using SFS, I've made an SFSformat in System (DH0), installed Workbench 3.1 and the three disks of DOpus 5, the last one is the Magellan. Later I installed the pcmcía drivers, the Idefix (patched) and the Blizzard 1260 drivers.

The thing is that by now I can't see all my former partitions; I only see the first two ones. The first has 500Mb and the other 3.5MB. The big one (of course) is the one I can't see.

Well, that's normal. The thing is (well, I don't understand Magellan and perhaps it's a simple thing) if I use the Workbench Install disk and try to use HdTools, HDToolBox opens as a player, starting Soundtracker 15...
The "Icon Info" it has as Tool Types for that icon are:
SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=scsi.device
SCSI_MAX_ADDRESS=6
SCSI_MAX_LUN=7
XT_NAME= XT

I don't know why it "plays" it as a song.
If I try with HDInstTools, Opus requests "Enter arguments for HDInstTools". What arguments must I give him... Play it again Sam?

I have no idea how to do it, but the thing is: Can Magellan come to see all the partitions or do I need something else with a big HD?

A1200, Lateral 32GB CF, internal Dvd, ACA 1230/56 with an MKII Fast ATA at 9,5Mb/s, another A1200 BPPC project in progress (more or less), and posting from my own/better C64x in my Tv using Hdmi.

Ok, the shift key has helped (I promise I had tried, don't know why it didn't work). Still don't have the third partition, but I know I must do something else... I will see.

I'm trying to update to 5.66 (I have 5.55), but the thing is althought I have the complete patch, when it starts to update it says "Woops! (isn't he funny?) Cannot find the patch archive. Required archive: Opus6566Patch.lha"
The thing is that that archive is just there...
Must I be missing any program?

Remember I told I have tried before the Shift key? I'm trying to boot with Workbench again and it opens with Dopus pressing the shift key (I've tried both, and both together). I believe I have those keys wrong (as a couple more)

EDIT:
I've installed Genesis and Ibrowse. It wasn't easy, I used what Thomas told in a post: " When running on a real Amiga, do not use the OS3.9 version of Genesis. As you can see, it does not work on OS3.1. Install the MUI version of Genesis from Aminet (search for gendemo to find it quickly). Replace genesiskey.library by the one from the OS3.9 CD to unlock the full version".

Well, I've got a trick with the keyboard to get Workbench, but how do I do when it asks me for a required archive ...lha?

And the other thing (I know Magellan isn't the culprit): Is there a way to get more than 4Gb running without OS3.9?

Ok. I've got Amikit working in my A1200, with Dopus Magellan included. I've disabled a couple of things for that, as I don't have a graphic card. As it's installed with OS3.9, now I can see all my partitions.

The thing is that to setup Genesis I've got to write in the startup-sequence a command for the prism2 defaults. Something like this:
SetPrism2Defaults SSID wlan2 TEXTKEY asecreTwePkeY.
I've done it many times before without problems in others Startup-sequences, and if I use cli I have no problem to use Genesis, but when I put it in the startup-sequence, as the characters there are very big and separated, that command keeps in two lines; the second with the secretkey numbers, and when I boot the amiga says something like value after keyword missing.
How can I change the startup-sequence fonts? Or is this a different problem? (perhaps I must put a tab space on the second line?)

Hi again. Ok I'm connected with the Amiga. It was very easy. I only changed the font in "fonts" and could write the complete command in one line, and now it works. It seems extrange how something like this can make all fail.
I have repaired too my keyboard changing the membrane for another that costed me 1 pound.
I've installed limpid clock and now I will add a couple of programs to get more chip memory...
