Yup, Someone did this a while ago and got a Mac Voodoo5 card runningon his Mediator system by plonking it in a PC, updating the BIOS to the PC's version then it worked fine in his miggy.

As for the 15bit modes you mentioned, From what I recall its mainly game introductions (iirc WipEout uses a 15bit screen for its intro) and then the various megademos that are about.
