To be fair Commdore used to do the exact same thing. I think their term was the programmes were not "system legal" and leave it at that.
Patches would then be forthcoming or not.
There's a lot to be said for that policy, actually - if you've ever read about what an amazing amount of cruft Windows has built up over the years trying to maintain compatibility with software that doesn't
quite stick to the standard, you can see the reasoning there. Inconvenient, to be sure, but on the other hand it goes a
long way towards keeping the OS lean and mean.
(However, I have no idea to what extent AOS4 reflects that or not.)
