I still think Eye in the Sky is my favorite APP album, but this one is a close runner-up.

Ya ya!! I used to own almost every record they put out!
I'm impressed by how well they did at making accessible, catchy progressive rock without actually watering down the interesting stuff. Good music!

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.... :furious:

I suppose it had to happen one day, the day that I was dreading and had even almost managed to almost forget about... :(

For 18 years (18 bloody years I tell you) my best mate all the way back from our C64 days, played nothing else non friggin stop, week in week out every time I stayed at his house... Genesis & Phil Ruddy Collins...

18 years of hearing the same friggin albums over and over and over again made me want to throttle Phil Crappy Collins, thankfully he moved away about 7 years ago now and I only see him about twice a year now but he still only has Genesis and Phil Buggerin Collins in his music collection (no kidding)... :(

And now you've gone and done it, you had to post a ruddy Genesis track, you orrible, orrible person you... and even worse I clicked on it and now I'm just off to stick some knitting needles through me earoles and bang me head of the nearest wall...

Your cruel you are, cruel I tell you...

PS: I hope your goollies fester and fall off and get run over by a steamroller and a scabby stray cat come along a pees on them, you bugger you... ;)
I feel your pain, man, but this is the real Genesis, back when ol' Phil was sticking with what he was good at (drums and backing vocals) and weirdass extraordinaire Peter Gabriel was leading the show, long before there was even a whiff of crappy '80s pop in their music. Totally different.

I hold that this has, without question, the very finest synthesizer solo ever recorded. (And a damn fine song to boot.)

Jeez man, you seem to be tapping from my old record collection left and right!!!!

I actually kept all my old 70's YES albums not just for the musick, but for the giant prints of Roger Dean's art work!

Yes is still good, but it is rare that they put out an album anymore that comes anywhere near the brilliance of their 70's work.
Yeah, I'm big into classic prog. I think it has to do with my dad being a classical music buff and thus my being exposed to it quite a lot, and then getting into classic rock later and finding this at pretty much the intersection of the two ;)

I need to take a listen to Fly From Here, I wasn't aware that it had been released until just now. Nice to hear that they're getting back into longer works, though I'm not sure how I feel about Benoit David.

I do have to say though that the studio stuff on the Keys to Ascension albums is easily the best they've put out since Drama. "That, That Is" in particular:

Sounds like Anderson himself isn't too happy about it either :/ Internal politics can be an ugly thing. But then, they've pulled back together from bigger splits before, so here's hoping...

He had some respiratory issues or other and couldn't be there for most of their 2009 tour, so they brought in David to perform in his place. Sounds like he's been getting better and wanted to get back into things, but apparently they must've been getting on well with David, as they started recording an album with him instead of Anderson; Anderson's said he was a little hurt by that. But they've had squabbles before (the whole "Big Generator" Yes/ABWH split that lead into Union, for example,) so hopefully this won't be anything cataclysmic.

Conclusion: extremely underwhelming. I don't even think that much of it can be blamed on Benoit David; almost all the songwriting seems to be pretty much going through the motions. (The title piece in particular suffers from being a handful of different songs transparently strung together, which I've heard in other long-form songs but never in one of Yes's :() "Into the Storm" really seems to be the only track anybody gave much of a damn about.

As for the new kid...he sounds like someone took Geddy Lee and sucked out all the energy :/ I hate to say that, he's probably gotten enough flameage, but I really was not impressed.

Oh well. Plenty of great stuff from previous incarnations to listen to.
