usb as a network card or modem?

ive been struggling tryin to get my 1200  online..try as i might the card in the pcmcia slot  just doesnt seem to be found by any software ive tried ..out of curiousity i plugged my wireless usb modem into the usb slot...the modem was recognized by the system correctly  ..obviously the software was windows based so i didnt expect to go online with it ..after it told me what model it was it also told me ..auto software install ignored ..meaning i guess the modem was tryin to auto install its software as it does in windows when its plugged in ..made me think  is a wireless  modem possible on a a1200? through the usb ..or even a network card ?  
would like some thoughts an input  ..i know it may be slow ..
but would it work?

A1200 wireless PCMCIA cards do work once hours are wasted getting it set up properly. USB Ethernet Dongles can give faster through put depending on the USB device. The Poseidon 4.4 stack supports wired devices up to 1000 Mb/s based on the Asix device, but the most I get is about 250Kb/s, twice what I get from a standard 10 Mb/s Ethernet device.  I use a Zuni wireless bridge ($30 online) on occasion. The USB devices' are easy to set up. I have never seen a USB modem, but I'm sure they exist. Don't know if the USB stack supports them, never checked.

what software  is required to setup a usb network?..to a pc?
