JPG to IFF images
« on: July 10, 2003, 12:41:58 PM »
Ive been modding the a1200 for the past few months as funds allow and i am trying to make my stock WB3.0, can't afford 3.1 ROMS yet still saving for my scandoubler!, look a tad better. Problem is that i cant use any of my .JPG images from my Linux PC off of amiga.org as it seems to only like .IFF images. I have tried converting them to dosens of other formats including .BMP and even loading them in to every drawring and vector package i have on the A1200:-( . I guess there would'nt be a problem if i could save images to the .IFF format on the pc, but theres no option in The Gimp to do this:-? .  I transfer files using the CROSSDOS driver PC0: which allows me to read dos formatted double density disks, the ones with only one hole.  :-D
Athilon XP2200 with Mandrake 9.1 and A1200 cut un shut into a Tulip 486 desktop case :-o

Stock A1200 means no HD?

Well it was stock until i put it into a desktop case and added one of those great EZIDE interfaces from eyetech :-D . Hell i have to pop the lid of the case to type any thing at the moment whist i wait for my KBD interface to come though, but  coming back to the subject...

If you DO have a HD you could install a JPEG datatype to view JPGs

where can i get this i presume from AmiNet :-?  :-D

Yes, the latest version still supports the iff format. However, that's a bit pointless unless you happen to have access to a Windows machine

Actually thats a common misconception about linux, WINE the windows>linux binary emulator is now quite stable and also known to run Paint Shop Pro 5 along with other utils like Photoshop and even MS Office 2000 without a hitch.
Looks like that link to AmiNet is just what i am looking for.  :-P
Whilst on the subject of WB what are the requirements of amiga OS 3.5? I would get 3.9 but my Amiga is'nt powerful enouth for that, with my lak of memory and accleration:-(  Or will i have to make do with amigaOS 3.1 when i upgrade to 3.1 ROMS :-o
