Around the world in 80 clicks
« on: June 27, 2005, 10:57:35 AM »
Well, I managed to waste an entire Sunday on Google Maps,  some of the higher resolution satellite images are amazingly clear.
So here's some of the better known places to go and see..

The Whitehouse
Statue of Liberty, New York
Niagra Falls
The Hollywood sign

The London Eye(looks like the hamster is on it's lunchbreak!)
The Tower of London, and Tower Bridge.
Silverstone race track (zoom in to see cars practising!)

Eiffle Tower, Paris
The Kremlin, Moscow
The Colluseum,Rome
Golden Gate Bridge, San Fransisco
Empire State Building, NY

Also, what looks like 2 cars doing donuts on a military runway in Moscow.
Fancy a spot of plane spotting? Grab your anorak and head to Dallas Airport
Space Shuttle launch pad at Cape Canaveral

Not everywhere has been scanned to the highest res, but it's a great way to waste some time..and save a few thousand on plane tickets..

Took a while, but I finally found the Pyramids of Giza

Odin, if you could see my nextdoor neighbour sunbathing, you'll be glad that it's only in low-res.. :-o

I told my parents about this the other day, my Dad had a look then asked me why he couldn't see the planes moving
 :whack:  sigh..
(Why is it we have to take tests to be allowed to drive a car, but any idiot can buy a computer and go online?)

... and I was gonna ask for a picture of stonehenge... :)

Google maps could only get a cruddy low res image so bad, you can't even see it..it doesn't even show up on the map view !

But I did stumble across a nicer one at spaceimaging.com

I just downloaded the just released Google Earth client. Very nice little prog, adds roadnames, cute little cloud statistics (where available) and much more. I've already wasted an hour browsing the world :-).

Grrr.. the mac version isn't ready yet, and my PC is too low spec to run it  :-x

Now if only there was a button to activate the big red laser on the satellite, we could destroy Microsoft HQ
(And to keep Karlos happy, Apple HQ)

Kinda makes the  ex-CBM building,West Chester look a bit grotty.
