Just bought an amiga cdtv!
« on: November 02, 2012, 08:51:23 PM »
Hi, I just bought an amiga cdtv from an online retro store. I have yet to recieve it but it should be with me in a few days.
Its a full system, player, keyboard, mouse, ir remote etc. Ive also ordered wrath of the demon cdtv from e-bay for a good price.

So im looking forward to getting this. How hard would it be to put the zeus accelerator board in my cdtv when its available to buy.I hear its compatibile with cdtv.
So basically who's got a cdtv here and what would they recommend in terms of extras and getting the most out of this machine.
Im looking to get the trackball peripheral too and collect games/software too. Whats it like for playing music cds? Any issues that I should watch out for hardware wise. Do tell.

Congrats, as per my user name, I also like my CDTV :)

The real CDTV software works best, everything from floppies and stuff that requires keyboard sort of breaks the idea of the CDTV, a TV appliance with remote control. Still, it's nice to be able to use the thing with floppy games, too!

Hardware things I have come across:
- noisy fan, I replaced mine and it improved greatly
- contact problems and/or sticky lubricants with CD-mechanism sensors (boot screen turns red without a disc (as the tray thinks there is, and obviously fails to read it)) or the insert/eject is sluggish

I think CDTV should also work nicely as a CD-player. The remote controller is nice and most of the CD controls are on the front panel, too.

There is a lot of videos about the CDTV on Youtube, here is a two-part (quite cheesy!) promo video for it.

I really liked the CDTV version of SimCity, lot more stuff compared to the standard Amiga SimCity and the controls work nicely with the IR controller. Still, saving cities requires a SRAM card or floppy drive.

I don't know about accelerators, they seem rare for the CDTV. I managed to buy a CD1301 Genlock -video module for my machine, which is interesting (not to say I have any sensible use for it :))

Might set up some speakers with it and use it as a cd player then. Might get an external floppy disk drive too just for completion. Apparently the zeus accellerator board will work with a500's and cdtv which is basically an a500 too.Not sure if it will be easy to add the board to a cdtv though. Its in 9/10 condition too.

I have one also, and just recently got a joy / mouse adapter for it on EBAY, which shipped from Poland. Good quality. You can use normal joystick and mice with it.
It works but did not have chance to use it yet.
My CDTV has v2 boot roms with v3.1 roms.

Edit: That reminds me, I need to revise my sig.
The original trackball joystick adaptor? or a custom adaptor thingie? I guess it requires soldering or something to add v3.1 roms?

Boot roms here and no soldering and then you can use A500/A2000 v3.1 roms:

and joy adapter is here:

Maybe he's one of us?
Cool just blew my top-up credit card funds on other cdtv stuff on e-bay. Might get that boot rom thing though in a few days. Some stuff is for silly money and some stuff is very reasonable. Loom cdtv for 1,000 dollars no ****ing way.Scalpers. lol
