Jpeg prob - Unsupported SOF marker (SOLVED)
« on: March 03, 2007, 07:26:44 PM »
As time goes on, more and more jpegs I find on the net have this problem.  It does not stop ALL programs using the picture, just some useful ones.

Example - (not for the squeamish!)

http://truemetal.org/metalwallpaper/images/pleasuretokill.jpg

This picture and all on that site is a classic example.  I cannot print it as Graphics Publisher does not recognise it.  I cannot convert it with GFXcon, ImageFX, Photogenics either.  Viewtek saves pics out but won't view it, Visage will view it but not save it out!  Finally I resort to PPaint, but lose a lot of quality by using 256 colours.

I guess my question is, does anyone know of an image converter app which isn't picky about the images.

Cheers

Have spent this time playing with PicShow.

It does show it, but will not save out as I would wish.  It simply says "Could not save" or something.  This might be due to having no chip ram left! (yes I'm using fblit).  Besides, It will still be in much reduced 256 colour.  I may play with the jpeg saving later after finding jpeg.library.

Re Photogenics - I'm using V.1.0    due to it being free somewhere.

I'll try ArtPro later (think I used to use this years ago!

Re ImageFX - again using a very early version due to it being free, but still it's the best image processor app I use at the mo'.

Thanks for the advice.

Picshow saved okay in a low colour mode, but failed in 256.

I tried ArtPro, the Aminet version would crash while loading.  I found an older version on an AF CD, it loaded, but when saving the pictures appear very corrupted.  Then I gave up!

If Visage could save out iff pics like Viewtek, all would be well.

PPaint seems to be the only option here.  BTW, I'm not dissing PPaint, it's a fantastic app, just not really suitable for this operation.

AHA!!!

After thourough searching (and testing) in Aminet I found THIS.

Very simple to use CLI app which worked perfectly and quickly first try!  Full colour IFFs from tricky Jpegs? - Check!
