Blizzard: EDO RAM and more questions
« on: May 20, 2004, 01:52:42 PM »
Hello

I have a Blizzard 1230, from Phase 5. The board came with a 8M SIMM
installed. Recently I obtained some 16M SIMM, so I tried to use them in the
Blizzard. Unfortunately, they are EDO SIMM.
Although not mentioned in the documentation I found on the DCE website, I
heard in some forum or maybe in this newsgroup that EDO SIMM are not good
for Blizzard (Fast Page are the right ones).
In fact the first SIMM was recognized as a 650K memory. However, the second
one is recognized as a 16M memory. I used a bit the Amiga with the SIMM in
it and it worked fine. What kind of test for the memory you suggest me? I
would like to be sure that everything is right.
The SIMM that works uses 8 chip TMS417409 -60.

Other questions: I don't know if the board is a 1230 III or 1230 IV.
ThePhase 5 logo is drawn on it.
I guess it is a 1230 IV because the bouard can be turned off at the boot
pressing the key "2", and as far as I know the 1230 IV is the only model
able to do it.

Last question, related to the second: if a turn off the board using the "2"
key, how can I turn it on again? it seems that a reset does not work.

thanks in advance for your help!
Luca

thank to everyone for kind replies!
I found several programs to test memory on aminet.
During the weekend I will test the EDO SIMM.
If the test are ok, I'll keep it in its place.
