The OS it's self is very nice, it runs smooth even in a classic enviroment and you get access to a decent web browser (OWB) although in reality it's still pretty slow getting online in a classic enviroment.

Have a quick look at a little Video I made when OS4.1 Classic was first released:

The problem is when it comes to games/applications for OS4.1 they are all coded and aimed at the more powerful AmigaOne/Sam440 so you end up with a lot of stuff that runs too slow in a classic enviroment, you can't really even enjoy the new RunInUAE setups as UAE emulation is too slow on the Classics.

Here's an example of how the games run a little low:

If you really want to start using OS4.1 proper then I would suggest an AmigaOne or Sam440/460, I have an AmigaOne and haven't booted OS4.1 Classic propertly since (well except to show off to friends)

Take a look at my OS4.1 Vids taken on my AmigaOne:

So to conclude, OS4.1 Classic is very pretty and has some great features (love the Radeon Hardware Rendering in the OS) and works very well as a basic OS, just I feel the classic hardware is just a little too slow to get the most out of it.

All the best,

Steve.

For what else should you use that PPC card then? Just for the sometimes used PPC datatype or render module of whatever (through warp-up/powerup)? If I would have such a setup I would have AmigaOS4.1 and MorphOS running with it... :-)

Well I have OS3.9 fully pimped out with AfA_OS, WarpOS and WarpDT.

I also have HSMathLibs (registered) so it's a very slick running OS3.9 setup with OS4.1 style icons (kens Icons) but of course you can use Masons Icons too :)

It's great as you can still use all the classic software like WHDLoad and then you can run PPC/Warp3D apps like Quake I/II/Wipeout 2097/BlitzQuake/ShogoMad/HereticII/etc

A lot of these don't even work on OS4.1 or have glitches due to the Radeon Warp3D driver.

I also play about with WookieChat, basic online browsing and Emulators such as ShapeShifter which runs MacOS 7.6.1 like a charm.

I have two superb classic setups, CSPPC (233mhz) with CyberVisionPPC running OS3.9/AfA_OS/CGX4 and dual booting with a simple OS3.9 setup/Picasso96 with Voodoo 3 which is better for some of the Warp3D/PPC games.

I also have the A1200T with Mediator 1200SX and that also has a Voodoo 3 but again dual booting similar setups.  Thats the machine I run OS4.1 Classic on, when I do that I swap out the Voodoo for a Radeon 9250 and have the OS booting off a SATA PCI card and SATA HDD, ESS Solo Audio and Realtec NIC. This one has the Blizzard PPC upgraded by Stachu100 to 330mhz PPC and latest mask 060 at 66mhz (Will also run at 72mhz but I don't like abusing it lol)

I have lots of project pages over at EAB/Amibay if anyone wants to take a look I'm happy to share some links

All the best,

Steve.
