A4000 3.1 ROM set.. Or is it?
« on: November 19, 2003, 04:30:52 PM »
I have a set of 3.1 ROMs that are allegedly for the A4000.

The markings on both: K00985 and the other one reads U175 and the other U176.. These match the chip positions on the mobo.

However, my machine won't boot up with them installed.. I tried swapping them around too without any luck..

Can someone verify that these are indeed for the A4000?

I have a CSmkII 060/50 in the machine..

It seems that the ROMs are faulty or for a different machine.. I was hoping that someone could have identified them from what I wrote above just to ease my mind.. :-)

They were sold to me as A4000 ROMs specifically, so this is why I'd like it  verified. :-)

If you bought them from a dealer, by all means return them for replacement. Maybe even e-mail them the markings on the roms itself and say that you suspect that those are for a different 32-bit Amiga.

Unfortunately it was from a private individual many months ago..

Make sure they aren't plugged in backwards.  I had the right roms in the right sockets, but backwards, and it didn't boot.  Turning them the right way fixed the problem.

Thanks for your concern, but they were in the right way around, unless someone decided it's a good idea to put the pin 1 notch on the wrong end of the chip..

Usually ROMs fry if you plug them in the wrong way around. You were lucky. :-)

Ah, figured as much. My ROMs don't have the model name anywhere, only the serial no and a small sticker denoting 3.1 and the chip position.

The chip position would point that these are indeed for the A4000, but I haven't verified that no other machine has the same positions.. (why would they?)

I guess I'll just have to try and read the contents with some prommer and see what's in them..

Thanks for the info, everyone.
