GVP G-Force 30/40 problem ...
« on: January 28, 2010, 02:37:53 PM »
I  to all,
I've a old Amiga 2000 with a GVP G-Force '30/40 inside.
The kickstart version is 3.1 and the chip mem size 1Mb; the GVP mem
size is 4 Mb.

When the workbench starts (1.3 ver) the system seems works but after
a random time (> 5 minutes) my Amiga freeze; I must reboot
the system ... :confused::confused::confused:

If I use the GVP without the mem (only SCSI HD connected to the
G-Force) the system works fine .... It's a memory problem (the gvp mem is
new!) ?

My GVP card is broken ? Can you help me

many thanks
Leonard

Hi save2660,
thanks for you reply :) !
I've 3 SIMM (4 Mb for each): 2 SIMM from Softhut and the third is original.

Last night I've tested everyone SIMM individually into same memory slot card,
but the system froze; it's possible that the SIMM are bad all ? :confused:
I've executed the software RAM test (each time, with the GVP disk tool) and
the SIMM seems good ...

I think that my jumper settings are ok .... tonight I send you some photos
showing the settings.

regards
Leonard

Yes I've Workbench 1.3 too, but the system freezes the same on.

I've tested with the GVP Install (autoboot, GForce2030-921002.dms ) disk too ... :(

Hi to all,
'the workbench starts (1.3 ver)' sentence is bad ... sorry

'the workbench starts (3.1 ver)' is ok :); i've workbench 3.1
(with kick 3.1) and workbench 1.3/Gvp install disk (with kick 1.3).

I attach the system's photo showing my settings and more.

Into my GVP Install disk there is not a file named gvpscsi.device,
but only gvpscsi into Expansion dir ...

many thanks
Leonard

Hi,
I've executed the following tests:

a) Kick 3.1 and Workbench3.1 disk (booting with Wb3.1):
--> with HD SCSI:
      original SIMM only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
      SoftHut SIMM1 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
      SoftHut SIMM2 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
--> without HD SCSI:
      original SIMM only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
      SoftHut SIMM1 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
      SoftHut SIMM2 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...

b) Kick 1.3 and GVP install disk  (booting with GVP Install):
--> with HD SCSI:
      original SIMM only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
      SoftHut SIMM1 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
      SoftHut SIMM2 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
--> without HD SCSI:
       original SIMM only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
       SoftHut SIMM1 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...
       SoftHut SIMM2 only -> GVPMemTest ok but the system freeze ...

NOTE: I've two SoftHut SIMM; some time the system has not frozen but has rebooted (softaware failure - like guru meditation error msg -)...

The command "version gvpscsi.device" showing 4.15 version

Are my system switch setting ok (look my jpg image) ?

For Cosmos: my gvp card has 5 caps (with the sign 686, 10k, 440);
do you have 5 caps 686, 10k, 440 for me ? If yes I try to buy it ...

thanks
Leonard

Yes I've an 68030 25 MHz .... I've executed some new tests :(

Kick 1.3, GVP Install disk (for the boot) and without SCSI HD

a) FPU + 68030 + 4 Mb SIMM (jumper settings: J6 open, J5 close,
CN8 2&3 and CN17 2&3 -> are the setting right - to run 68030 at 25MHz - ?) ---> GVPMemTest ok but (after some minutes) GuruMeditation (#00000025.00000000)

b) 68030 + 4 Mb SIMM, without FPU (same above jumper settings) --->
GVPMemTest ok but GuruMeditation! (#00000008.010105F0)

c) 68EC030 + 4 Mb SIMM, without FPU (same above jumper settings: 25MHz) ---> GVPMemTest ok but frozen ...

d) 68EC030 + 4 Mb SIMM, without FPU (jumper settings: J6 close, J5 open,
CN8 1&2 and CN17 1&2&3 - 40 MHz -) ---> GVPMemTest ok but after
some minutes frozen and then GuruMeditation

e) 68EC030 + FPU (without gvp SIMM) 40MHz ---> GVPFpuTest ok but after some minutes the system is rebooted ...

Finally if I run my system without the GVP Combo, all seems works fine !

Some questions:
If I want use Combo without FPU, must open (all pin free) CN16 ?

J13 must be open or close (close = 4 Mb SIMM, open = 1 Mb SIMM) ?

It's difficult for me understand (looking the Combo), which are the right CN pin number (for example CN16 has 3 pin, but which is the pin number 1 ?);
there are photos showing the CN's pin numeration ?

I am really hopeless :confused::confused::confused: ...

regards
Leonard

I've read the +5 pin voltages (for each pin) with system loaded and on, the results are: about 4.88 V (on pins 1, 2, 3 and 4). Are this bad voltages ?
