In order to connect the A1200 into a VGA monitor and still get the old games to work, you'll need an expensive adapter called a "scan doubler" that will convert the horizontal scan rates of the old games from a TV scan rate to VGA scan rate.
Personally, I'd just stick with the TV set or find an analog RGB monitor.
