Old Floppies and damage
« on: June 02, 2010, 05:06:51 AM »
I decided to take on the task of making adf files of all my old disks and some new old disks I acquired with the 2 non-working 2000's I picked up recently.

Here's the problem I just had my second drive go bad.

The first drive started squeaking when I put a disk in and by the time I took it out the drive would no longer read. Is it fixable like a bad drive belt or something? I've never opened up a floppy drive.

The second drive was half way through copying and adf when the noise started.

I'm using a null modem cable and Amiga Explorer to make the adf files.

Is there anything I can do to check the floppies before i just put them in?
what steps should I take to prevent another drive failure?

Yeah I know just don't use a drive! what other options are there?
