When you say that the amiga just dies, does the fan on psu still spin and does it output power and the lights are on or is it completely dead?

If i where you i would try to find a modern PSU with all the correct negative rails and just replace the whole inside.
I had to do that with my PSU, did not get a tick signal so i just gutted the whole thing and i now got a 400w psu inside the original psu case and works like a charm :)

Just remember to messure the power output before and after so you have connected all the wires correctly :)
