My Philips CM 8833 died half an hour ago too.
I was in the Workbench and suddenly the screen went black and the power light went out, and there was a tone that gradually declined in frequency and volume (like a staircase descending is the best way to put it) and it goes to a low tone from a high one and then disappears. This tone is not from the speakers...
If I turn it on again all I get is the same tone, until I turn it off and then the frequency and volume decline the same. I'd say it's no more than 1KHz initially, and it sounds square or triangular.
Is it fixable?
