I've been avoiding the task as well as I have a couple of Apollo's that need doing for my 1200's. I'm going the CR2032 route with cell holder and diode...I was supposed to be doing it today but I doubt I'll have time...I have the parts ready though.
There's also the issue of leaky electrolytic capacitors. I haven't checked my motherboards but I have checked my Apollo1240 and there's a leaky cap (the only electrolytic cap on the board) and it sits on the bottom of the board, exactly the other side of the CPU - so I need to get this replaced as well.
This made me have a look at my Blizzard1260. Fortunately there are no electrolytic capacitors on there so there's nothing that could possibly leak.
