Thank you for the historical enlightenment, I wasn't quite up to speed on the whole Bokmål/Nynorsk situation.
I think something similar should have been done in Denmark a long time ago (probably too late now) as many of the dialects bare very little resemblence to the official written (and spoken) language, and there are still times when I drive by a townsign in my province that I wonder 'how the hell did they get *that* name out of the original dialect one'.
But now instead, more and more people conform to the official danish language, gradually forgetting their dialect, which is a damn shame.
Even my friends make fun of me sometimes when I utter some Sønderjysk word and they are all from the same area! There are not very many people around my age (23) that speak it anymore.
But oh well, we'll soon all be speaking English anyway (or American :shocked: ) or perhaps Chinese :-D
