Survey on virtual communities
« on: December 10, 2008, 12:08:56 PM »
Hey dudes.

Want to help me out by answering a small survey?
It's available at Heysurvey as well, so you can choose to answer it there (anonymously) or just reply to this thread.

General questions:

How did you become a member of this community?
- Recommended by a real life friend
- Recommended by a virtual friend?
- Web search?
- Other?

Why did you join this community?
- To get information about Amigas?
- To meet like-minded people?
- To just have fun?
- other?

Friendships in a VC:

Can a friendship in a VC really be intimate and/or supportive when you can only write to each other?

Have you ever after becoming friends with someone through a VC...

- spoken with them on the phone?
- met them in real life?
- added them to your instant messenger?
- Anything else?

Trust/help/anonymity

People can in theory be as anonymous as they want to in a virtual community, from just a random user name to complete information about name, address, work, etc. Does this have any effect on the amount of trust/help you would have in a virtual community?

The community itself

Do you have a sense of belonging in this virtual community? (Why?)

Has your involvement in virtual communities affected your involvement in real-life communities (positively or negatively)?

I might do it virtually...

Seriously I consider them a waste of time....

I can appreciate your position, I tend to get annoyed at surveys myself, at least when they are shoved in my face.

Don't feel obligated to answer it. If you don't want to, then that's the end of that, I'm not going to beg. But it'd give me something to talk about at my exam.. :)
