Questions about Secret of the silver blades
« on: March 14, 2012, 10:22:58 PM »
In the WHDload version, what files do I need to copy over, so I can transfer my characters from Curse of the Azure bonds to Secret of the silver blades?

Thanks in advance!

okay, so in case anyone else is a hardcore SSI AD&D fan, I figured it out:

Unlike the previous game where you had to do it in a certain way, the method in the manual works for Secret of the silver blades. Basically, in Curse of the azure bonds, "remove" each character from the party. This creates a file with the characters name and a .guy file name.

Copy this to the save folder and you can use the characters. It even carried over their icons (which I had trouble with going from Pool of radiance to Curse)

Thats my plan. Went through the first two, and going to continue til the end.

Piece of advice.. non human characters will run into problems after Curse, because their level advancement is capped.

I tried dual-classing into ranger and paladin with my two fighters at the start of Curse, but that made the beginning exceedingly difficult, as my boys couldn't hit the broad side of an ogre :D

So for now, I've just stuck with the fighters. Party is 2 fighters, 2 clerics, 1 thief and 1 magic user.

Thought of dual classing the thief into a magic user, but then... at the moment, he's handing out 60-80 point backstabs :D

I must say, as far as tactics goes, these are by far the best you'll get RPG wise on the amiga. There were other great RPG's (Heimdall, Eye of the beholder etc) but they always focused on things other than party tactics.

yeah, they stuck pretty unflinchingly to the original AD&D rules as much as possible :)

Life gets easier once you get "neutralize poison" at least

If you like old school D&D, or like hardcore tactical RPG's. They have a somewhat steep learning curve though.

That's *BLASPHEMY*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never got past Pool of Radiance, was Curse and Pools better? What's the level cap on those, anyways? I always seemed to run into issues with capping experience way too early.

That depends on why you didn't get past Pool :)

Curse caps somewhere around 11 or 12. I believe Secret goes up to 15.
