700 bucks from System 76 will get: (Laptop anyways, didn't look at a desktop system)

Ubuntu 10.10
Core I3 processor
2 gigs of RAM (+35 dollars for 4 gigs)
250 GB hard drive
Wireless
1 year warranty and 1 year support

How does that compare to the C64x?

Uh, the obvious.
It has a slightly newer release of Ubuntu.
It has a faster, more powerful processor.
It doesn't have a C64 breadbox case.
It's $100 more expensive.

Im not actually trying to be obtuse here :) I had a hard time finding hard specs at a brief glance onthe CUSA site. It was all scattered throughout the place I looked.

Actually for linux, 2 gigs of RAM is plenty. I have 4 gigs in my desktop and rarely if ever exceed 50% in use. Swap is never touched at all.

I guess you could price match against a netbook or a desktop system too, for full comparison. I picked system 76 on purpose, as linux installed machines is a niche market, and comparing to something like Fry's electronics (one of my fave's) or best buy would be unfair.
