Anyone using gnomeshell ?
« on: October 09, 2010, 10:27:27 PM »
Just installed this and its pretty nice now that I've gotten the hang of it.
Not really much customization yet, but its pretty stable at least. Can't wait for it to be finished.

Will have to mess with it for another week or two before I decide if I'll stick with Gnome or switch to this for good.

Hmm, had never heard of it, but looking at the screenshots it's almost like they took the netbook remix frontend and merged it into gnome. I imagine it'd scale down quite nicely for a netbook too!

It feels very "mobile device" yeah.

A few bits I like:

The search seems a little old fashioned, but as you type it searches both user files and app's.

You can bring up the menu by just poking the top left corner of the screen with your mouse.

Using multiple desktops is very slick. Its hard to explain but its far easier and more userfriendly than I've seen previously

with phones reaching 1 ghz, the boundaries between devices are getting pretty slim these days
