There's a great history/connection between Amiga and BSD.

Matt Dillon, famous to many for his early Amiga contributions (I myself purchased DICE for my C programming) is a huge BSD god (or devil depending on your point of view).  Check DragonFly BSD.

I'm more Linux myself, but nothing at all against BSD.  Started on a 4.3 BSD box back in the day.
