This article is incredibly biased. In truth, reactos is worlds behind wine and linux. It paints a nice picture of a future possibility but its just that... Its not in any way anyhow ready to be a drop in replacement for windows.
(Which is its future intended use)

Its a nice idea, an ideal that is much harder to make real than most people imagine. M$ has thousands, no tens of thousands of developers. Reactos has just a very few really active developers.

Last  I tried it the gui is severely lacking in even the most basic functions. The gui didn't even have moveable icons last I checked. This most basic feature is only planned for 1.0.  Its a hobby OS. Look I'm running doom for windows without windows. A nice idea but functionally, its not quite ready for anyone but future developers.

On the hobby front, nice hack but if its 10+ years behind current windows, its not much good to anyone but real nerds.

A big part of me hopes they succeed though. I think it would be awesome if they did. Imagine a big undergound of windows users ****ing the man. Yeah thats the good part of the concept. Hope it works...

I think linux makes a damn good desktop if you tweak it for your needs. I run xfce and the whole box is tweaked for speed. Yes out of the box, most linux distros are slow because of kde or other more bloated interfaces.
