Only other boxes I care for are B&W and Thiel. Otherwise, I'm all about planar magnetic (Magnepan - made in White Bear Lake, MN) or true ESL speakers such as Martin Logan's (USA once again). For anyone that doesn't believe there's a big difference between analogue and digital or that analogue trumps digital in spades, try listening to a real set of loudspeakers someday. If your hearing is okay, you'll be amazed - err... floored by the difference. Those types of speakers are soooo much more revealing. So much so in fact, that I really couldn't take boxed designs seriously anymore. Not even Wilson's - and I've heard their $40k system. Not impressed.
That's very cool. I picked up a pair of Maggies about 6 months ago (1.7s) hooked up to a Bryston 4B. Amazing sound indeed! The biggest reason I did this was that I was tired of getting ear fatigue with my old mission box speakers.
On topic: My retro hobbies include retro computing like Apple //s and Amigas and arcade games. I have a full standing MAME arcade cabinet in my den that is a work in progress.
My other retro passion is my 87 Scirocco 16v:
