No offence mate, but bitching about it like this is more likely to deter people than anything else. If you want to draw attention to it, you mention it on the site or put the 'Donate' button somewhere more prominent.
The whole point of Paypal donations is that it's voluntary. If people don't appreciate what's there, they won't donate. If you want it to be a commercial endeavour, make it a pay site, or put up commercial banners. Otherwise you have to accept that you're going to lose money on your project.
