IDC50 to DB25
« on: October 19, 2009, 09:26:25 PM »
My question is about connecting a external cd-rom having a IDC50 connector
to amiga 1200 Blizzard SCSI IV kit, DB25 female port.
Is there such a cable or adapter that does this : IDC50 male to DB25 female ?
Or do I have to try and solder it myself ? Thanks :)
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

I think you're asking for the wrong thing though... don't you want an IDC50 female to DB25 male connecting cable?
Sorry, I think youre right, so I need that cable.Anyone ?

So my setup would be like this :
I have a few year old usb 2.0 external cd-rom for my pc, I opened it up and there is just an ordinary IDC50 male port connected to the usb adaptor, and some power cables going to actual cd-rom. So I would get rid of the usb adaptor and connect IDC50 male port directly to the SCSI kit DB25 female port. Could this work, the actual cd-rom is just an ordinary SCSI device..

Seems like cd-rom is a IDE , not SCSI...
this get's a "little off-topic, but can IDE be connected to SCSI ?
Or should I buy a IDE splitter, and connect the cd-rom where my hard drive is connected. (talking about A1200).

I think a buffered 4-way IDE adapter (with relevant software) would likely be the best option. You might then fit a slimline CD/DVD drive internally in the A1200 (they are incredibly cheap these days - you might even get given one for free by some kind soul), and you also get the ability to add other IDE devices if you want.

Would a laptop cd-drive do the job, I have plenty lying around somewhere..?
And for the IDE adapter, this one : http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=42&products_id=532

BTW,thanks a lot you all have been very helpfull ! :)

For use two dispositives, like hd+cdrom or cf+cdrom, use the native ide interface of the a1200, just only need a 2,5 to 3,5 cable, its cheaper and runs fine.
Is this what you mean : http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=438 ?

I found this from my old Compaq Desktop Pro :

But there is no power cable going to the cd-drive, is it powered trough the IDE cable ? This drive would really fit my miggy, as it's the same colour and all

The internal IDE header of the A1200 can provide about 1 amp of 5V, not much more. I have a 2006 manufactured slim optical drive here that takes 1500mA of 5V, I wouldn't be happy running that without separate power... and I certainly wouldn't run it at the same time as a 2.5" hard disk that is powered through the same 44-way cable.

Does the label tell you what the power requirements are?

My drive is manufactured in 1999, but the power requirements are the same as yours: 5V DC , 1.5A = 1500mA. How did you power yours ? And yes, I have a CF hard drive going trough same time... I assumed that if the cd-drive worked on my Compaq without a separate power, it would work with my Amy. Wow im getting stupid :roflmao:

Opened my A1200 and found that there is a 2,5 44pin to 3,5 40pin adapter installed, since I have a CF hard drive, now I just need a 40pin female to 2xmale ide cable, is there such a thing? so my configuration would be : from 44pin to adapter, from adapter to CF and CD-drive.
