From what I'm given to understand -- and I don't speak for the owners or the site any more -- Amiga.org was just put on it's own account with hostgator rather than sharing my reseller account with my other (some very popular and heavy) sites.

Say what you will about hostgator.  Yes, there are cheaper places to host, but IMHO, over the last 3-4 years, they've proven themselves to be reliable and worth the cost of hosting, unlike other hosts that Amiga.org has had in the past.

Similar service from certain large and well respected german provider is maybe 1/3 the prices. And all of their dedicated options have more monthly bandwidth, more memory, more HDD storage and faster CPUs.

IMHO this is something that should be considered if the site is going to be run by donations. If no donations are used then I guess it's okay to waste money.

I find it stupid to pay more for less. Especially if the money is collected from the community.

methinks you may have a vested interest and are running your own Hosting service and are trying to drum up some business for yourself...
