I use
Alpine for my personal mail. Before that I used pine.
It runs on my linux box (except that early on it ran on the university unix boxen), and I use it remotely via ssh (the alpine is always open in
screen).
This way I can access my mail from anywhere, anytime (including amigaos, if I for some reason need to).
