the DVD burner don't take CD`s for some pathetic reason.
Using Nero perhaps? Some versions have this tab to choose between CD and DVD, which is kind of easy to miss.
Is SATA faster than IDE?
The interface is, but the HDDs are so slow that unless if you use striped RAID you won't see much difference between IDE and SATA HDD. Typically SATA HDDs are slightly faster due to some other improvements such as
NCQ.
