so is there any new amiga hardware under construction?

The key phrase is "under construction". There are at least 3 projects that have a goal of producing new hardware. None of them look like producing new hardware anytime soon.

will there be pegasos compatibility in the near future?

OS4 will not support Pegasos (reasons are anyone's best guess: License from amiga inc is said to be the blocking factor, but those other projects seem to happily ignore the license problem. Personally I think the biggest problem is ego.)

If you want something now, the only choice is Pegasos and MorphOS. Then again, MorphOS is next generation amiga system aswell... If you want to read more about it, check Introduction to MorphOS and MorphOS Developer Connection (registering is free, and you get access to all developer material).

isn't morphos something built on mui?

The desktop (Ambient) is built on it. Naturally you can use whatever GUI system in your own apps, boopsi, gadtools, classact, bgui or whatever.

is there / will there be a firefox / java for morphos?

In my personal opinion Firefox or Java are unlikely to happen for any amiga like system (AmigaOS 3.x, 4.x, MorphOS or AROS).
There's AmiZilla and JAmiga, but a lot should happen before these projects are finished.

will my 68k binaries run under morphos?

Assuming they're OS friendly, yes.

if the answers are yes (except for mui which i dislike), i should give it a closer look.

Out of interest, what's wrong with MUI?
