there are schematics on aminet for adapters, you have to add a chip (ttl buffer?) to prevent the the display chips for trying to genlock and get fried. just putting the right wires accross can result in damage from what ive heard.
I had a direct RGB->VGA converter without any extra components and it ran fine for years. The A1200 mobo is still fine, aswell as the 3 monitors I used it with.
My understanding is that the extra circuitry will allow use of genlock, and that it's not really required if genlock is not used (99.9% of cases anyway).
