Very good, as for a developer view.
But at the end of the day, isn't it how the end user experiences and appreciates the result what really matters?
The purpose of the whole endeavour?

So what does the end user get?

1. a working application + dirty code
 or
2. a crashing application + clean code + possibly some unperceivable performance gain?

Frankly, I see no way the option 2. could win, unless this is strictly a development system and "end users" are actually developers.
