Pal Agnus in NTSC A2000?
« on: June 29, 2013, 06:20:53 PM »
Can I use an 8372A Pal Agnus in my US Amiga 2000?
If so, is there a simple way to switch between Pal and NSTC modes?

8372A are all dual PAL/NTSC, the default mode is set by a trace on the motherboard & can be changed at run time.

I'm assuming you already have an NTSC 8370, in which case yes.

Great! I bought one and wasn't 100% sure.
Yep, swapping out a 8370 for the 8372A.
I wanted to upgrade to an Indivision ECS, and this component was necessary.

IMHO try to score yourself a MegaChip of some sort (8375 on an adapter board with extra memory chip, gives you up to 2MB chip ram).  Once you get your Indivision you're going to want to make use of the higher screenmodes it supports, and the extra chip memory is very useful for that.  ;)

I've considered that, but MegaChip boards are hard to come by and when they do sell its usually for a high price.

i think I'll just stick with the 1 meg upgrade.
I've also ordered an 8373 Super Denise, so I'll have most of that ECS goodness.

If you are going to use an  Indivision ECS, you don't need one.

I know, but funds are tight right now, so the Indivision ECS will probably have to wait.

@Iggy,

I took the jumper off my amiga's ntsc/pal jumpers and hardwired in a switch which now allows me to power up in either mode for different programs, just make sure the unit is off when you flip the switch.

Not a bad idea, smerf.
