IMHO, a price like that is justified only if the computer is capable of doing something truly special. Is that the case here?

Oddly, no.
It should be faster then a system from Acube, but that hardly justifies this much of a premium.

Should MorphOS ever be ported to the Mac G5, comparison benchmarks would make this investment look appallingly foolish.

If my requirement of a system is to run OS4, then your cheapo G5 will be absolutely useless to me, and ths a complete 100% waste of money. Regardless of clock rates, number of cores, or whatever, the X1000 will smoke your G5 on all OS4 benchmarks. Yea, X1000 is more expensive, but at least I CAN use it for what I want to do.

(do understand that I'd very much prefer an L1000 (L for Laptop) and that I'd love to have OS4 on my iBook. That's not possible. Nore is OS4 on your G5 possible, for much the same reason.)

You're absolutely right Bill.
But by the end of this year I will have MorphOS running on a Powerbook.
And, while it might benchmark slightly slower, it will also cost a small fraction of what an X1000 will cost.

And if you ran linux on that powerbook, it'd actually have wireless internet.

Why bother with the dick waving guys ?

True. And Linux also supports other hardware (G5s, multiple processors, better video).
I'm running Ubuntu on my Quicksilver right now (and it can support the R300 and R400 video cards I've got fully).

But we're talking Amigoid OS' right now. And there is a beta driver for some wireless cards that is being bandied about.

Personally, I stll use wired connections on all my PCs because its faster.

And I sure don't want to get in a "dick waving" contest. Personally, I'd consider AOS4 if the hardware was slightly more reasonable.

Right now, the only NG OS' that work on affordable hardware are MorphOS and AROS.

And whose fault is that? I'll give you a hint, it starts with H and rhymes with "Tiberian.".

Absolutely, Hyperion wants to help sell new hardware.

And now that crap is all defined well enough that I'm sitting here running Debian happy as a clam on a Power Mac G5, and there's still no OS4 for PPC Macs..".

And Macs are defined enough to port Linux to, so there is enough documentation.

If this thing cost 100EUR, I'd absolutely buy it. But it doesn't, and I won't.

I'd pay more then that, but almost $2700? No way.

an (sic) heretic is a morphos user!

I am NOT a heretic.
I just have enough common sense to refrain from buying an overpriced solution when a better one is at hand that's cheaper.

And kudos to Xdelusion. I love the X1000 design too (and hate the price).

I hope A-eon remains solvent and releases there next board (which will probably be based on a Freescale processor).
