Wow, Mr. Bill steps on Barry's toes.
No matter what you think of Altman and C=USA, you've got to have sympathy for him dealing with this shyster.

Currrrse!

In computer terms, the news is ancient.
6 weeks old.

I wasn't even aware McEwen had the website back up.
I'd heard a few things about tablets, but I assumed they were from C=USA.
At least the C64x has a distinctive package.
Why in the world would I want one of these iContain things?

"IContain announces Amiga branded TVs, cell phones and computers"

Barry IS dealing with Satan.
The TVs I knew about.
The cell phones I couldn't care less about.

But that last part, boy I'm glad I'm beyond caring about that trademark.

Mighty quick read for a thread packed with that much content and that many links. heh.

Seems pretty basic. McEwen intends to dilute the value of the name till its worth about as much as say an "Acme" computer.

Also from Bill's website

And, "

Contact Bill. I'm sure he'll give you "exclusive rights" too.

CUSA has exclusive rights for all-in-one keyboard computers. Not exclusive rights for everything.

And since these things don't have keyboards they're OK?
Come on, if C=USA is successful, do they deserve to have the confusion this is going to cause in the buyer market?

Confusion in the buyers market?  You mean branding something non-Amiga as Amiga?

Since that argument died in 1994, I don't think its relevant.
You don't seriously think that 17 years later a new Amiga would support legacy software do you?
Hey the XBOX360 doesn't play a single original XBOX title, and the hardware is completely different than the original system, but no one questions that it is a successor to the original system
You may not like it, but you've got no control over what direction Amiga hardware takes.
You also don't even know what the specs on these new machines maybe or what software they'll run, but you've already decided they're not Amigas.

Guess what, you opinion doesn't hold water in the legal or business communities.

You mean MOS and OS4.x can't run ANY Amiga software natively?

Of course they don't.
That ought to be obvious.
Neither OS runs on a 68K processor.

When it comes down to it, neither runs AOS3.X software any more natively than AROS does.

I thought they both ran 3.x software if it doesn't hit the hardware ?

While ingenious, MorphOS' solution involves a just-in-time interpreter that actively translates 68K instructions on the fly. Since MOS supports most AOS 3.1 system calls, this allows it to run a lot of Amiga apps.
So yes, MorphOS runs 68K Amiga apps, just not natively.

And while I don't know enough about AOS4's internal workings to describe how it handles this task, as it too runs on PPC processors it isn't running 3,x apps natively either.

picky, picky.  They translate the instructions, but they're not emulating an Amiga.

Oh no! That's exactly the point! They ARE emulating an Amiga while running 3.X apps.
The fun part is when you start developing and running REAL native apps.
That has to be the most frustrating part of being part of the MorphOS community.
We've got a damned good derivative of AOS.
Better than, AOS and better hardware.

Oh, hey, one quick qualifier. Warp3D software does run natively (they even got rid of some of the bugs).

The only things I run in it are the Steel Panthers remakes, and King of Dragon Pass. Its coming along nicely though

Yeah, it scares me. When it was first introduced all I could think was "this will never work".
And now, sometimes, it does.
