buffered ide 4 port for Amiga 1200
« on: March 14, 2010, 09:18:26 AM »
Hi,

I purchased one of these off ebay

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=532

Now can I use my compact flash and a cdrom drive without purchasing the idefix97?

Eg can I use 2.5" ide interface for the compact flash and the 3.5" ide interface for a cdrom drive?

Also will an Amiga 500 power supply have enough juice to run an Amiga 1200, 1230 Amiga Accelerator 50mhz, a compact flash card, cd rom drive and the internal floppy drive?

AFAIK Idefix97 it's only used for the secondary channel, so you can definitelly use an CF2IDE adapter as Master and CDROM as Slave on the Primary channel without needin' to use Idefix97.

A500's power brick can definitelly run an A1200 with 030, CF, CD-ROM and floppy.

Hmm bit confused with your statement.

I want to use a compact flash adaptor which uses the 44pin ide cable, so I connect that up.  I can then use the 40 pin ide port cable for an ide cd rom drive?

Yes, but you will still need the IDEFIX software installed, which it actually comes with (IdeFix Express).

Yes. My A1200 runs fine with an 030/16MB expansion just fine, with a HDD and Internal floppy. A CompactFlash uses a fair less amount of power over HDD (It doesnt need the power to drive the spindle motor for one). I would say A500 (Heavy Brick) should be fine.

The idefix express comes with the device?  It doesn't cost anything extra?

Hmm hopefully by the end of next week I'll have a fully operational Amiga 1200, can't wait!  Am looking forward to using Deluxe Paint IV, Vista Pro, and Amos Professional, plus some classic gaming as well!

@ tasmanian guy, what slimline cd-drive are you using, or have you purchased one yet?

Hi Lauri,

You may not have seen my other post, but I've got my Amiga 1200 in a 1U rack, so either a slimline or a normal CD / DVD rom drive will fit.

I've got a spare DVD rom drive that isn't a slim but will fit nicely in the case, just got to get a professional to cut a hole in the case at the front.

For the other poster, what would I need to remove from the startup sequence to remove the nag box?  Can you still register idefix express?  If not why has it not become just free?
