Been trying for all weekend to get IDEFIX97 working on my A2000 so I could get the CD going.
Using OS 3.1 (clean install) kept copying the installer over from my Win 7 machine with a 3.5" drive attached. Once I get it over to the Amiga, I discovered somewhere along the way the archive file was renamed Instal~1.lha. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to install or work properly.
Finally today I got to thinking about wildcards (don't know why!) but checked the AmigaDOS manual and sure enough the ~ (aka tilde) is a wildcard that specifies "ignore everything before this!
Back to the PC and rename the file to Nstalr.lha and BACK over to the Amiga and Voila! It worked!
What a ROYAL PIA!!!
You could probably also have fixed this on the Amiga by renaming the Instal~1.lha file from Workbench, or maybe you could have used the option switch that turns off pattern matching in LhA.
I will also recommend that you install Fat95.
