RTG will always be a lot faster than AGA unless that version of MAME is doing something really badly wrong. MAME was never designed for indexed palette displays, and certainly not for bitplanes!
You'll also need very old ROMs as the 68k version is prehistoric now in MAME terms, and the ROM sets have changed a great deal.
You really need a PPC to stand a chance of good results I'm afraid. Maybe one or two really simple games will work acceptably if you have a graphics card.
Also, note that some older games are a lot more complex than the newer ones, so don't go by age alone!

He said they'd work, he didn't say how fast. :)

To be honest, I don't know how fast they would run but I do know they'd run better on RTG than AGA (unless as I said something's badly wrong with the port, anyway). Tempted to go and try them but I need to sort out why my A4000's network card is a bit flakey on the Prometheus.

@Minuous
Part of the reason it's not been updated is because MAME long ago changed focus from speed to accuracy. Hence anything past about the 0.35 will be woefully slow on an 060, even at 100MHz with a graphics card - certainly the later versions of MAME wouldn't run anything at all usably on an AGA Amiga. NG Amiga, yes, but not AGA.

I got my A4000 working. :)

I just tried Ghouls'n'Ghosts on my CS-PPC. It was quite interesting...

OS3.9 AGA:  31% speed
OS3.9 Voodoo III (Prometheus): 30% speed (this should not be slower!)
OS4.0 Voodoo III (Prometheus): 35% speed!

First off, there's no way AGA should be faster, even if only 1%. Something's a bit squiffy there.
To back up the "something squiffy" theory, it's crazy that it's faster in OS4. The 68K emulation is very good, even in OS 4.0, but 18% faster than a 68060?!

My CSPPC is a 604e@200,68060@50, by the way.

DMA is something different, it doesn't affect the speed of software like this.

As for it being 18% faster, that's really quite surprising. I know on the face of it it may seem like Petunia should be much faster, but remember the 604e is only 4x the clock speed of the 68060, which is also equipped with some quite fancy speed-up things like caches and stuff. Also remember that the 604e may run at 200MHz but the memory bus definitely doesn't, and in fact the 604e spends quite a bit of time throttled by the lack of L2 cache.

Either way, I'd say it shows that Petunia really is a pretty fine CPU emulation.
