You can actually use a SCART switcher....

The SCART switch box that I've got tie the RGB line common to all the inputs, and has an "RGB" button. When you press it it connects the RGB from all the inputs to the correct pin on the TV. I imagine it's the same on most cheap switchers with an RGB button.

I've used this way to connect my Sprinter (a Russian "super-Spectrum" computer 99.999% of people have never heard of) to my Sony TV which only enables RGB mode when the correct pin is set high, and also when I was using my A1500 which lacks +5V on the video port (I think I wired the cable to +12V instead - still inside specifications).

That's the sort of thing. Mine was a standard £10 job from Tandy's a few years back, but I reckon they're mostly the same inside.

@InTheSand:
They've not been made in ages, and there's hardly any software for them....

... but hey, how can a 4MB RAM 21MHz Spectrum with a hard disk, floppy drive and 256 colour support be bad (as well as compatibility with loads of Spectrum clones like the Pentagon, Scorpion etc).
