What you need is a PC DD disk drive - these are not easy to find! HD drives are all over the place of course, but they won't work, I don't think - definitely not HD disks but they might work with DD. Wouldn't count on it though.

If you can find a DD disk drive, though, you need to change the unit number jumper. All PC drives are jumpered by default to unit 1, which is why there's a twist in PC floppy cables - it means the drive on the end (after the twist) becomes unit 0. To use the drive on an Amiga you need to either use a cable with a twist in it, or rejumper it to unit 0 instead of unit 1 (not all drives have this! Some are hardwired!). Alternatively keep it as DF1:.

That's the trick you're thinking of, anyway. Maybe someone else can be a bit more definite though!

Yup. That's what you need to modify a HD drive. DD drives are a lot less hassle, from what I recall. The Drive Ready line is usually missing on them.
