I think that any technology that people get used to that gets superceded by newer "better" tech can be like the amiga and os/2 and possibly palm.
It's sad that i have had all three of those so i can comment with experience here.
i had a palm centro for quite a while and i really liked it. i went with the verizon mifi for internet so i ditched the smartphone for a regular phone.
the problem with palm was they waited sooooo looong to update the palmos and all of a sudden they want everyone to be in awe of the palm pre when apple released the iphone and have done so much with it. its almost like they didnt care but they were drug kicking and screaming into it.
